a new beginning
fortunately/unfortunately, the 3d/2n babsc freshmen orientation camp '06 has ended today. the opmc members had so much fun planning for all the freshmen. seriously, it was worth the cause. for YOU are worth it! it wouldn't be near successful if not for your family heads or more affectionately known as OGLs who volunteered their time to interact with you, encouraging you and demonstrating that NIE life is not all about books and chalkboards. lastly, of course, it wouldn't be called a camp if there's only the planning committee and the OGLs. thus, our heartiest appreciation to all of YOU who dared take up the challenge to attend this camp.
can i say that a majority of you didn't regret signing up for the camp? can i safely say that friendships were made and secret plans to stay in hall together were thought of? can i then say that this camp is essential for every nie freshie?
on the other hand, the opmc members would like extend our apologies to any of YOU who've found anything (if at all) that you and your og were not pleased about. we're as new as you, embarking on a unchartered journey. do feel free to raise any issues up on the comment box. we'll try our very best to adress it.
anyway, worry not freshies. this site will be up as long as YOU feel that it can serve as a vehicle for you to know more about your seniors and of course, NIE.
pictures will be up soon.
p/s: OGLs (who are reading this) who are in charge of taking photos with their digi cam, do drop me an e-mail with your name and your OG name at faizah.moose@gmail.com. thank you!

BIG THANKS!

first and foremost, the opmc members would love to thank all of you who came down to the babscorientation 06 registration booth and paid for the camp fees as well. it sure was great to finally see the freshies.
*rub hands with glee*
the comment box have been flooded with lots of questions now that the camp date is nearing. let the opmc try our very best to clear things out for all of you.
let's make this into a q&a session (wrt the camp):
one
q: what time and where do we have to report on the day of the camp?
a: the camp is on the 24th of july in NIE. you are required to report outside LT 8 (you can check the passport that you received when you registered for the course today for the map). for those who have yet to pay/hand in the reply slips, do bring along the $18 and the form.
two
q: where will the camp be held?
a: be prepared to participate in both in-campus and out-of-campus activities throughout the 3d/2n camp. so please bring along cash and your ez-link. (further details can't be revealed. our apologies)
three
q: are we required to attend the Trainee Teachers' Club (TTC) Camp?
a: nope. you are only required to attend the babsc camp on the 24th - 26th of july. the camp organised by ttc are mainly for the students taking the diploma in education course.
four
q: in the camping list, only shorts/track pants are stated. can we wear berms or lycra/yoga-kindof pants?
a: yes dear. any kind of comfortable pants can and in fact are highly recommended. you'll be moving around alot and besides it'll be hot, so feel free to wear clothes that are comfortable. (no super short shorts/skirts ok? even if it's comfy to you.)
five
q: are we required to wear the tshirt that was given to us on the registration day (the black one) or the colour co-ordinated by our OGLs?
a: first things first, you don't have to put on the black tshirt given by NIE on your registration day on the first day of the camp. but should you want to, hey please do so! for some of you who've been informed by their OGLs to colour co-ordinate, go ahead! for those who've not been told of anything, you can wear blue, green, white, pink or any of your fav colour tee.
six
q: is the sleeping bag necessary?
a: take it from my experience, i slept on the cold hard floor. so yes people, do bring along that nice warm comfy sleeping bag. for those who've yet to get one, let me tell you.. (psst: parkway level 4 camping shop sells them for $12 only! *winks* i get no commission from this okay!)
seven
q: when will we be told of our groupings?
a: when you report, look for your name on one of the pillars. there, you'll see your group name & number. proceed to the station with your group name pasted on the table. once there, please check your name and other essential particulars (ie allergy, food specification and tshirt size)
eight
q: can we have the camp programmes now?
a: we're totally sorry but nope, we're not allowed to release any of the fun and juicy details as yet. a lil element of surprise would be great, don't you think? *winks* but yes, be prepared to sweat, to run, to cheer and to make life long friends too.
nine
q: we have an orientation programme at 9am on wednesday morning, 26th july. can we leave our bags in the tutorial room or do we have to lug it around?
a: we are fully aware of the orientation programme that all of you have to attend on the last day of the camp. thus, we'll be releasing you from the camp early in the morning. regarding the bags, you have to carry the bags to the next venue as your programme will not be in NIE.
ten
q: should there be any questions, can we ask some more?
a: hey! sure. we love getting many many comments in our comment box. feel free to ask. we're more than pleased to answer.
the opmc members are excitedly waiting for monday. see you guys soon. reaaalll soon.

a little clarification
the opmc members have been getting questions regarding the first day of school. the whens of it mostly. we believe that all of you freshies received a programme sheet together with your NIE package which states that there'll be an orientation programme for three days. it starts on the 26th of july to the 28th of july.
coincidentally, the last day of the camp happens to be the first day of the orientation programme. worry not, my friends. all of you will be released early that wednesday morning to allow you to be at the orientation programme on time.
take note that the 26th of july is NOT the first day of school. it is only an orientation programme where you'll be enlightened about the courses, the majors and other important aspects of school.
as far as our memory serve us, school will start proper on 7th of august 2006.
anymore dying questions to ask, feel free to drop us a comment/mail. we're more than happy to answer. =)
p/s: thanks xue! you're such a great help!

smiles
if the government's having the smiles2006 campaign, we have our very own group leaders' smiles campaign. here, a mural of some of the group leaders who you will be able to see during the camp. YOUR group leaders!
lOOk closely. could it be your childhood friend? your long-lost kindergarten lego-play mate? your primary school hopscotch buddy? your secondary school crush? your junior college eye candy?
so we'll ALL see you at the camp!
p/s: we greatly appreaciate those who've sent in their reply slips. for those who've not, please do so! you've missed the deadline. that means, you might not be getting the t-shirt size that you want.

tshirt sizes?
it has come to my attention that some of you might have just received your orientation package a few days back. and i realised that it would be pretty rushing for some of you to submit your reply slips by the date mentioned in the previous entry.
so can you be angels, and email me your tshirt sizes along with your name and contact number at nura.idah@gmail.com, just so that we can order the right tshirt sizes for you? but we will still need you all to submit the forms via post as we need to get your other details as well.
thanks ya. its very much appreciated =)
